Choose the destination

The very first step is to choose the right finish for the floor. Nowadays, there are three main options. All of them have their own advantages and disadvantages. You should decide on your requirements and preferences.

Polyurethane: This type of surface treatment gives the wood a darker and yellowish appearance. It is quite durable and therefore ideal for areas where there is a lot of moisture and traffic. You can choose either a water-based or oil-based finish. Both are equally good.

Lacquer: If you want to finish wood floors, paint is the first thing that comes to mind. It is available in a glossy and matt appearance. The shiny one is much more durable. The paint gets darker with age.

Penetrating Sealant: This is the best option if you want to improve the natural appearance of the wood. It can make your floor really impressive. The only problem with this type of finish is that it is not very durable. However, you can locate it very easily.

Step by step

First of all, you have to remove the old finish. For this you need a grinding machine. Then fill in the floor with wooden spatula cracks or notches. Allow the putty to dry and then grind it using sandpaper. Now you need to thoroughly clean the floor to remove dust. Then you can apply the seal and then the wax. Do not leave any dirt near while drying.

Equipment you need

You can easily rent a walk behind the grinder and a hand grinder. You will also need detergents and something to cover the floor while drying. Most important, however, are dust mask, eye protection and gloves.
